Melanie M. Lira earned her Bachelors at the University of Houston in Art History and Religious Studies, a Masters at St. Mary’s University in International Relations, and her Juris Doctorate from St. Mary’s School of Law. She is licensed in Texas since 2016.

She has been honored for her commitment to human rights and social justice and received the Alice Wright Franzke Feminist Award and the Justice Alma Lopez Women in Law Leadership Award. Further, she received recognition from the Texas Access to Justice Foundation for her pro bono service.

Throughout her career she has focused on defense work, both as an immigration and criminal defense attorney. She specializes in asylum and removal defense. As the first citizen in her family, she understands the importance of keeping families together.
